Yours Truly, is this what i look like?
UNFD
Yours Truly’s grand return, in the form of EP is this what i look like, is an immense one. Taking all the goodness of singalong pop-punk, and injecting it with something a little more vicious, Yours Truly sign off their latest era with bite. Their first extended release since way back in 2020, it’s a compact tour of all the reasons the Australian gang’s star is rising fast.
Laced with emo and pop-punk legacy with a forward-looking urgency, Yours Truly don’t pause for breath before launching into opener Walk Over My Grave. Plenty of soaring vocals and punchy hooks propel onwards at frenetic pace, setting the tone in moments. Across the rest of the EP, there’s no more signs of pause, either – it’s one melee of noise, start to finish.
That’s not to say that there are no punctuating moments, though – the emotional apex of the EP, title track is this what i look like?, is a natural standout – a hint of restrained melancholy builds the intro before descending into dizzy chaos as a backdrop for Mikaila Delgado’s agonising, relatable internal monologue. She’s just as electric on Hallucinate: no mean feat when you’re duetting with scene royalty You Me At Six’s Josh Francesci – Yours Truly aren’t just holding their own, they’re taking the torch.
Elsewhere on the EP, Yours Truly throw in a little variation not by turning the tempo down, but by knocking out an expertly done, perfect pop-punk banger. If You’re Drowning (I’ll Learn How TO Hold My Breath) is Stand Atlantic, Neck Deep, anthemic goodness of the highest order, pulled off to a T; Lights On is a delightful alt-pop-punk gem. Yours Truly have proven that they’ve grown in every direction, and are ready to go further.
