You Me At Six, MAKEMEFEELALIVE
AWAL
It’s the start of a new era, it seems… the 2020 invasion is upon us. You Me At Six are back with a scorching new track, melding the dance-rock drive of previous album VI with a sharp punk-rock attitude. MAKEMEFEELALIVE sounds like if Josh Franceschi stepped straight into an IDLES track… and it absolutely works.
The punk-rock feel is immediate, with tense guitars drawing you in. It’s difficult not to get caught up in the track’s energy, spurred on by its delicious vigour. There is a definite You Me At Six feel due to the catchy, infectious beat, but the slightly rougher soundscape is new. It’s a less refined sound than previous releases for sure, but the untouched feel truly heightens the raw, unfiltered frustration captured within the short track.
Franceschi’s vocal delivery is also more raw than usual, yelling over the hypnotic, steady beat. At moments his voice sounds strained, making his exclamations of ‘MAKE ME FEEL ALIVE’ feel all the more desperate and earnest. Franceschi vocals fit the more punk feel perfectly, and we can imagine that the guys will all absolutely revel in the future live performances of this track (when the time comes, that is… sigh).
MAKEMEFEELALIVE is a short, impassioned cry for more. You Me At Six have captured a sound that feels truly alive, thriving and pulsing with a muffled energy from start to finish. We can’t wait to see whether the guys decide to further explore this sound in their upcoming projects – we feel like it’s a recipe for success!
