Happy., Background Noise
Rude Records
Happy. had us won over from the very first single ahead of their sophomore album – Sick Is The New Sane was as infectious as it gets. But of course, A Cure For Wellness and Liarliar came along to prove that Happy. aren’t slowing down, and if latest release Background Noise is anything to go by, this album isn’t going to have a single low point.
Far from being literal background noise, Background Noise is a tune to be blasted through open windows and bopped along to with feeling. Happy.’s brand of pop-rock is as shiny as ever, churning along in a haze of crisp riffs and near-constant hooks. Dipping into a bit of pop-punk here, Background Noise nods to the most fun corner of rock with fierce power chords and a classic 2000s beat, but their pop credentials remain intact with a bridge that hits all the emo buttons.
Impostor Syndrome is due at the end of this month, and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be a worthy follow-up to Happy.’s stellar debut, 2018’s Cult Classic. If singalong tunes are your thing, if you love a huge chorus, and if you want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then get Happy. in your ears – because they provide all of the above and more.
Impostor Syndrome is out October 30th.
