Who knows whether festival season will actually go ahead this year? Well, GLOO do. IT WILL! Whether it’s six people having a boogie in a back garden, or whether we finally all get back to being messy in a field, GLOO are releasing their second album this summer, so there’s no way the summer won’t be a never-ending party. With a suitably buzzy single release, GLOO have unleashed the news that How Not To Be Happy will come out on August 27th, so get your hardiest dancing shoes on, grab a beer and get stuck in.

Latest single Ride epitomises everything that makes GLOO so good in a giddy noise explosion. The unrivalled power of just turning the volume up and writing a riff that hits hard shines loud and clear here; there may only be three members in GLOO, but do you really need any more than guitar, bass, drums, a lot to shout about, and excitement with which to shout it? Of course you don’t, and GLOO prove it – Ride is nostalgically escapist for a world of spontaneous, unbridled fun, no ties, nothing but joy, and with a dizzying repetition of that chorus line of “I WANNA RIIIIIDE” and a totally infectious riff, they create a world we cannot wait to get stuck into.

Ride joins previous singles Big Smoke (guaranteed festival favourite, mosh-pits will be compelled to erupt from the opening note), Down (sunny, groovy, effortlessly cool, the sound of a garage you desperately want to chill in), and Work So Hard (GLOO’s offering to the discography of capitalist critique, and it’s never sounded better). There’s not one bum note on what we’ve heard so far, so How Not To Be Happy is looking bright.

How Not To Be Happy is out August 27th.
