Against The Current, again&again
Fueled By Ramen
The slow-burning lead-up to Against The Current’s next EP has finally exploded. They’ve been teasing us since last autumn with a drip-feed of immense new tracks, and while that won’t save us and weapon were both as mighty as you’d expect, they lit a spark that’s been waiting to fully erupt – and now, with latest release again&again and the news of an EP coming next month, that moment is finally here. Fever will arrive on July 23rd, and looks guaranteed to be a forceful selection of ATC’s most powerful tunes yet.
Against The Current have always challenged perceptions of their band. They swing between the pop and rock ends of their most-commonly labelled genre bracket wildly and effortlessly, but it looks like Fever is going to be very firmly down the heavier end. After the unapologetic poppiness of 2018’s Voices, Chrissy Costanza is back with fierce proof that she can bring the intensity too. again&again’s moody kick of bass lays the groundwork for a characteristically soaring vocal line, and Chrissy belts as powerfully as ever, but the chorus is more of a jackhammer than ATC have ever been, and it suits them to the ground. A guest contribution from guardin builds out the energy and amplifies ATC’s narrative even further, and continues to turn up the musical ambition that Fever is set to display.
again&again is the next logical step in the slow ramping up of hype towards Fever: that won’t save us was a true Gravity EP-level anthem, weapon was an utter whirlwind of angst and ferocity, and now again&again is here to keep propelling us relentlessly into the new ATC era. Bring it on.
Fever is out July 23rd.
